Is there something in your life that you promised yourself you would stop doing or stop eating

or stop watching or stop saying? But you keep finding yourself going back to those old patterns

again and again even though you know it's so destructive

and you want to stop, you just don't feel like you can.

Well, that, my friend, sounds like an addiction.

And today we are going to pray God's word and ask him to help us break free from addictions in our lives.

Welcome to the Prayers of Rest podcast.

I'm your host, Asherita, and this season we are praying through spiritual strongholds,

today specifically praying that God would break us free from addiction.

So take a deep breath and quiet your heart as we become

aware of God's loving presence around us and within us.

Today's passage comes from Luke chapter 4, and it's a bit longer than we usually pray through

here on the podcast.

But I think it's such an important passage to set the tone of this whole season, so we're

going to read it all together and then pray through it.

Luke chapter 4. Jesus returned to Galilee in the power

of the spirit and news about him spread through the whole countryside. He was teaching in their

synagogues and everyone praised him and he went to Nazareth where he had been brought up and on the

Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom.

He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him.

Unrolling it, he found the place where it was written.

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
