Paul, this question comes from a dad who just watched our Getting to the Heart of Parenting

series and was very blessed by the material.

He writes, I have a question that I know might be difficult to answer, but I thought I would

send it in any way.

We were recently told by a neurologist that our 15-year-old son has Tourette syndrome.

We have struggled with his explosive

outbursts of anger for about seven or eight years, and this diagnosis actually explains a lot of

things that up until now have been total mysteries to us. At the same time, from a biblical

counseling perspective, it raises a lot of questions. Do you have any resources that you would

point us to for Tourette's

syndrome and how to parent in a God-honoring way given the particular behaviors of someone with those tendencies?

So, Paul, I don't know if you want to answer that question specifically or perhaps more generally. What should a parent do, or any Christian, for that matter, when they experience a struggle

in life that is not explicitly addressed in the Word of God? And then, even more frustratingly,

if it hasn't been addressed yet by trusted biblical voices and experts within the church

who use Scripture as their guide. Our team did a quick search online from some of our trusted

go-to sources, especially in the biblical counseling world, and not one that we could find

had any resources on Tourette's. So where do you even begin to think if there's nothing out there?

So it surely is frustrating.

When you're dealing with something in the life of your child,

whether physical or emotional or some kind of mental thing.

And there seems like there's been no biblical research or theological work that's been done.

So here's where I would start.
