Summary

In this solo episode, Lindsey dives into the dating pattern so many of us secretly fall into but rarely admit: future tripping. From imagining a future with someone after one date to wondering if they could be “the one,” Lindsey reframes future tripping as something deeper than overthinking. Lindsey explores the psychology behind future tripping, the difference between intuition + anxiety in relationships, and how your nervous system often recognizes compatibility before your mind does. Lindsey also shares the powerful dating lessons she learned through years of being single. This episode is for anyone who’s ever ignored their instincts, stayed too long because of someone’s “potential,” or questioned what they truly want. Lindsey shares a new framework for dating rooted in self-trust, and understanding what your imagined future may be trying to tell you.  We also talk about: Why future tripping is actually rooted in neuroscience + attachment theory Signs you’re confusing potential with reality Why “I can change them” is often a dangerous mindset The subtle difference between compromising + abandoning yourself Green flags that signal real emotional growth in a partner How to identify compatibility beyond chemistry and attraction What your imagined future reveals about your deepest desires + values Lindsey’s personal dating stories before meeting her husband Sean Resources: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lindseysimcik/ Order our book, Almost 30: A Definitive Guide To A Life You Love For The Next Decade and Beyond, here: https://bit.ly/Almost30Book.  Sponsors: Chime | It just takes a few minutes to sign up. Hello and welcome to the Almost 30 podcast. It's Lindsay, your girl, one half of the Almost 30

podcast. I'm so glad you're here.

This is a solo episode, which we do once a month at least. Kristen and I have been really

0:28.8

doubling down on our solos both together and individually because we heard from you.

0:34.1

You guys want more of these. I think us starting the podcast on our closet floors

0:39.2

and talking about life and all the things that we were moving through brought so many of you here.

0:45.3

And while our guests are incredible and we've learned so much and we will continue to bring on

0:49.4

guests, I think the solos are a really special peek inside our brains and our hearts, what we're moving

0:55.5

through.

0:56.2

And what we found is that when we share, usually a lot of you either relate or learn something

1:02.2

or think about something differently.

1:04.1

And so, yeah, if we can have a vulnerable moment with you here in our solos and make a difference. It is well worth it.

1:12.4

So today, I wanted to do a solo inspired by my time dating. If you've been here for a while,

1:23.5

you know. I had a whole moment in my life. It was truly my brand of being the single girl.

1:31.1

The sacredness of being single was a program that I created, was a movement I led. No, it was a very,

1:40.1

very powerful time in my life. And I've spoken to thousands of you about this time in your life.

1:47.0

And really, we've reframed it for ourselves. We've rewritten this story that it's, you know,

1:53.6

a murky in between. It is a super powerful and purposeful in between in your life. And if you don't

lean into it and really find the growth

2:05.0

opportunities and be okay with the silence and the quiet and cultivate that relationship

2:12.2

with yourself, dating and being in a relationship could actually be harder. So I wanted to kind of zero in on an

2:20.1

experience or pattern that I had that I was very judgmental of during my dating years. And that is
