First Timothy, chapter 1, verse 16,

but I received mercy for this reason that in me as the foremost

Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for

eternal life. What a great verse coming right on the heels so in First

Timothy chapter 1, verse 15,

Paul writes that Jesus came into the world

to save sinners.

And he said, I'm the foremost.

Like when it comes to sinners, I'm at the top of that list in terms of being the worst of

sinners but then he says right after this I received mercy for this reason like that's a that's a good question why

have I received mercy why have you received the mercy of God in your life I think about

this all the time especially as I go to places in the world

where people have never heard of Jesus and they still haven't heard the gospel. Like, why was I born into a place where I have heard the

gospel? Why have I received mercy like I have? And so Paul says I received mercy

for this reason that in me as such a sinner that I am as the foremost,

Jesus might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.

My life, Paul says, is a picture of God's patience that he bears with sinners and

he pursues sinners even though worst of sinners he pursues

with his love.

And you know Paul is saying this but I think any one of us listening to this that knows the mercy

of God would confess honestly me too like my life is a testimony to God's grace, mercy, and patience.
