Well, what does that mean, though? Basically, to redeem means to bring someone under your care,

to pay the price, so to speak, for caring for them.

So if you are redeeming someone in this picture in Ruth,

then you are saying,

I am going to take responsibility for providing for this woman,

for her family, which Boaz was uniquely able to do

because of his relationship in Naomi's family.

There's so many details we could talk about there.

But the bigger picture is Ruth, the book, is giving us a picture of God as the Redeemer.

God as the one who pays the price to provide for us under his care, for sinners under his care.

God who sins the Redeemer, Jesus, His Son, to die on a cross for our sins, to pay the price for our redemption,

our restoration to relationship with Him, where we can experience the full provision of God

for eternal life. Like, as a follower of Christ, you are among the redeemed.

You have been saved by a redeemer.

You've been bought by a redeemer.
