MacPower users episode 85 paperless. Hello everyone. This is David Sparks along with me is Katie Floyd. Hi Katie. Hey David. So we are back to paperless. We are back to

paperless and you've got a big announcement to make for the few people

hiding under a rock who may not know.

Yeah, well I just released a a book about of all things paperless.

Are we calling these books? Can you call them books now? I guess Apple calls them. I guess I don't know what you call them. It's a new media

thingy and think that's the word I use. Well it's a very interesting experience. You did

this with I books, I books author. Yeah, so I self-published.

All my prior books have been through a publishing house and I wanted to explore the idea of

self-publishing and I wanted to do a book on paperless because it's a big deal to me and

Apple came out with this I books author thing. I actually had already started writing the book but I at the time I thought I was

Going to do some kind of strange PDF or e- Pub format. I knew I wanted to do things with an

electronic book that I couldn't do with a paper book, like I wanted to embed screencasts,

because I feel like learning paper lists a lot of it you need to

look over someone's shoulder and see how they actually run these things. So I knew I was going to do that but I didn't

know how. And then just a few months ago Apple came out with the

Abix author tools and it was like that's it I'm doing that. So I I remember when

they did you and I had a phone call and we're like oh my gosh this is what you've

been looking yeah I was very excited and and I spent the last

three or four months kind of simultaneously enjoy using this application and banging my head against the

walls I was trying to figure out how it all fit together and I'm really happy with it so the book is called paperless and it's a Max Sparky field guide.

It's the first of hopefully many I'm going to do these field guides, you know, maybe a couple, two

or three a year. And the idea is to give a real deep dive on how to do something important.
