Hi everyone and welcome to this week's Squiggly Careers podcast. I'm Sarah and I'm joined by my co-host

0:08.7

Helen. Hello everybody. And this is episode 84 and today we're talking about coaching yourself.

0:14.7

And actually I'm really surprised we've not covered this topic previously because when you know when the topic comes up and you think

0:20.8

surely after

0:21.7

84 episodes there's going to be nothing left for us to talk about but each week we still manage to find

0:25.9

something and coaching is actually something lots of people talk to us about probably partly because

0:31.5

we are both trained as coaches but also because I think it's one of those things that has sometimes

going to focus on today. And we'll talk in a bit about, you know, why there are some barriers

1:03.0

to coaching. And it's something we're really passionate about, actually. We've got some ideas

1:07.2

in the ether about how we could make coaching more accessible, hopefully coming later

1:11.6

this year. But in the meantime, and generally anyway, I think there are some things that you

1:16.1

can do around coaching that can just be useful for you day in, day out, week in, week out.

1:21.5

These are almost techniques I think can just become part of how you work. And so before we kick off, just thinking a bit about what coaching is,

1:30.1

I think sometimes coaching gets misunderstood as mentoring.

1:34.2

So mentoring and coaching often gets married together,

1:37.3

and that's because sometimes people play both of those roles.
