It is November 14th, 2017 and we are very excited to have with us today returning to Mormon Stories.

Sam Young or as we're calling you in this episode, Bishop Sam Young. For those who don't remember, I interviewed Sam Young for episode 649 of Mormon Stories.

About a year ago, a little more than a year ago, and at the time, Bishop Sam Young or former Mormon Bishop Sam Young, but in Mormonism once you're a Bishop, you're always a Bishop.

At the time, Sam was really interested in the law of common consent and speaking out about how we're not really making use of the law of common denser in the church and that we need more people.

We're also focusing on voicing their concerns with the church and its teachings and even raising their hand in descent during word conference or state conference or even general conference.

And Sam still believes passionately that if we're going to have a law of consent, it should mean something, but that's not what we're here to talk about today.

So just a couple things, Sam and I go way back because my father and Sam were business partners in a business venture in Houston in the early 80s and mid 80s and maybe even early 90s.

No, no, no, it would have been in the 80s.

And that's where I got to know Sam as a true believing Mormon Sam went on to become Bishop in I think in the Sugarland area and in Houston near Houston.

And about a couple years ago, Sam started learning things about his faith that we're troubling.

But what we're here to talk about today is a new initiative that Sam Young is pushing basically Sam has been learning more and more about how bishops and branch presidents and sometimes stick presidents and mission presidents

and have these one on one interviews with 12 year olds, 12 year old girls, 12 year old boys, 16 year old boys and girls, even 20 or 30 something year old men and women.

And during these interviews, issues of masturbation, a pornography of sexuality are brought up.

And sometimes in these interviews, they can become very graphic, they can become very appropriate, they can become very coercive, shaming.

They become very chaotic. Sometimes the interviews are handled well, sometimes they're handled disastrously and sometimes really really bad damage is done.

And so what Sam has done is he's put together a petition that he's trying to get people to sign to try and encourage the LDS church to end its practice of worthiness interviews maybe generally but more specifically end its practice of
