Summary
The Bible seems to say that God created on man, Adam, and the rest of humanity sprang from his loins. (Creepy image, I know.) But the science suggests otherwise.
In this conversation, Old Testament scholar Dr. Tremper Longman helps us navigated the thorny issue of the Bible and science as we consider both the biblical and scientific evidence for the historicity of a historical person named "Adam."

| 0:00.0 | All right, friends, we've got Trumper Longman back on the show to talk about the historicity of Adam. |
| 0:07.0 | And as you will hear in this conversation, in the wake of the Human Genome Project led by Francis Collins, the apparent biblical |
| 0:20.1 | portrayal of every human coming from one pair Adam and Eve that there's some |
| 0:28.6 | issues there there's some conflict there now anytime the Bible conflicts with science I am not an advocate of just choosing science over the Bible |
| 0:38.2 | Sometimes science appears to say something and then is later corrected. Sometimes the so-called scientific consensus |
| 0:44.9 | is not at all a scientific consensus. |
| 0:48.0 | Scientists deal with interpretation and human fallibility. However, this one is a bit tricky. It is a bit tough. It does see |
| 0:58.8 | from the little that I've looked into it and Trumpers looked into us ten times more than I have. |
| 1:06.0 | The whole idea that humans came from one human pair does not seem to match the scientific evidence that we know from the Human Genome Project. |
| 1:17.0 | And so, Trumper helps us navigate that, and he suggests an alternative way of reading Genesis 3 I say |
| 1:26.7 | alternative to the typical assumed I'll say conservative or literalist |
| 1:32.2 | reading of Genesis 3. |
| 1:35.0 | And if anything, this is an engaging conversation. |
| 1:38.2 | I really enjoyed listening to Tremper's perspective, and I think he's a good guide for these kinds of conversations. I'm still I don't know where I'm at on it honestly I would need to look more into the science |
| 1:47.8 | As I said in this podcast you know his his the way he framed Genesis 1 makes sense to me I think that's valid it's a very valid way to read scripture and I think his way of reading Genesis |
| 1:59.8 | three I think it's valid too it's just a little bit harder to swallow and I |
| 2:02.5 | voiced that in this body gas I'm like I just I just it does feel like we might be |
| 2:07.8 | trying to make the text fit science rather than truly looking at what the text is saying. |
| 2:15.0 | But I think as reading's valid. |
| 2:17.3 | So I need to do more thinking on it. |
| 2:20.6 | And I encourage you to do more thinking on it too. Okay I'll stop talking because I hope |
| 2:24.5 | hopefully you're interested enough to keep going. So yeah without further ado let's welcome back to the |
