Hello, this is Paul McKenna, and welcome to the positivity podcast.

My objective is to interview the most interesting people in the world,

and in the next 30 minutes, get insights and even discover how it is that they do what they do,

what makes them unique and fascinating, their success

mindset, and certainly what keeps them positive. My guest today is an award-winning radio and

television broadcaster, famous for shows on ITV, the BBC Radio One and Radio X, amongst others.

I'm talking with Vernon Kay. The solid foundation of being a good

person that my parents gave me that is always there to rely on. You know, my mum's a strong Roman

Catholic, my dad's a real happy-go-lucky chap. And I think the way that we were brought up in a positive

environment is always there to support

you and fall back on when things get a bit sticky. You don't get a gig because you're just plucked from

the wall. You get a gig because you're different from everyone else and that's what the key is.

No one is given success. No one is given the ticket to ride into the sunset with a million dollars. Every single

person has worked, grafted, they've put pen to paper, they've treaded the boards, they've built

the foundations of their own careers and they've gone out there and succeeded. And I think

whatever knocks you down, whatever tries to hold you back, you've got to fight through those barriers.

I think gratitude resonates.

I think gratitude is like, it's like a hole in the wall or a hole in the ceiling when the bath's leaking.

Once that little drip starts, the more gratitude you feed it, then all of a sudden...
