I was searching through newspaper archives, and I ran across an article that listed out the major stories in Wisconsin in 1994.

The top story of that year was an inmate at Columbia Correctional Institute, beat Jeffrey

Dahmer to death with a metal bar. Another story for that year reported that hundreds of people

were searching for a 12-year-old Cora Jones in Waiuego, Wisconsin. She was biking by her grandmother's home,

and a few days later she was found strangled. Officials let convicted sex offender David Spanbauer

out on parole three years prior. He had not only murdered Cora, but he'd also killed two other

people after they released him from prison.

Then, in Jefferson, Wisconsin, there was a teacher's aide, accused of having three teenagers kill her husband for money, cars, and jewelry.

This is the story that brings us together today.

We have many small towns in rural areas in Wisconsin. Often people grow up in these

places and never leave. Outsiders might gravitate towards and even move to these small cities

because this way of life is desirable. Jefferson is one of those sleepy Wisconsin cities
