0:11.0	I'm Keith Simon. Today we're going to look at one verse in Hebrew
0:15.8	chapter 4. It's verse 12. For the word of God is alive and active, sharper than a
0:21.5	double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit,
0:25.6	joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
0:30.3	The Bible is the Word of God.
0:32.2	That's why it's a unique book. It was written over the course of about
0:35.2	1500 years and has 40 different authors who contributed at least a little bit to it.
0:40.3	The Bible claims that it is divinely inspired, as Paul puts it in 2 Timothy it is God breathed
0:46.8	Jesus claims the Bible is without error. It really is a one-of-a-kind book. I don't think anyone can read the Bible and come away unmoved.

0:58.2	with hundreds of more languages having only the New Testament. Have you ever noticed that people have respect for the Bible,
1:04.4	but that doesn't necessarily mean they've read their Bible much? Like you could believe the Bible is
1:08.7	the word of God, but that doesn't mean you spend much time in it or know it very well.
1:13.3	Sometimes I think Christians treat the Bible like a software license update.
1:17.6	You know something you might see on iTunes that you have to click that you agree with
1:20.8	before you can move on and use the program? Now when you see one of
1:23.8	those updates come across your screen do you scroll through it and read it? No of
1:28.8	course not. You just scroll to the bottom and click I agree and I think that describes a lot of church people's
1:33.9	approach to the Bible I agree with it but I haven't really read it and I don't really
1:37.9	know what it says e-readers like Kindles tell us that a lot of people buy big important novels, maybe something
1:45.4	like war and peace, but that they don't actually finish the book.
