#8 of 458 "Best of Listener FAVS" A story of the courageous individuals who fought for freedom during Nazi occupation in the Netherlands. In this story Six resistance fighters are featured in this story. Hannie Schaft- a college student from Haarlem who joined the resistance at age 20 and asked to be trained for assassinations. Two of her best friends were Jews and their struggle opened her eyes to German atrocities. She was sought after by the Nazis who knew her only as the "red haired girl". Truus and Freddie Oversteegan- two teenage girls who also became Nazi killers and teamed with Hannie Schaft on some missions. Jack Van der Geest- a Dutch and French resistance fighter who was one of only 7 men to escape Buchenwald. He later joined the American 101st as an interpreter. Corrie ten Boom- Helped shelter and save over 800 Jews, then committed her life to saving people around the world Gerard Reeskamp and Father- A two man special forces team who played hell on the Nazis in Holland.
