Welcome back to the latest edition of the Audible.

I am Bruce Feldman, joined, as always, by Stuart Mandel.

We are taping this on Wednesday morning, and we have to admit the Associated Press did us and a lot of other people

covered college sports a big favor when they dropped their top 100 all-time college football

program rankings.

And Stu, you know, I got to admit I was a little surprised that the order.

I wasn't shocked, but they have Ohio State

1, Oklahoma 2, Notre Dame 3, Alabama 4, USC 5, and we'll get into the rest of the list.

What jumped out at you? What jumped out at me was that, okay, two things. Number one, and I wrote about this real quickly, Alabama shows up at number four, and we can question in a second whether that's the right number or not, but there's a nugget in there. They did a little write-up of each team, and I think this is just amazing. From 1980 to October of 2008, Alabama was only ranked number one once, and that was the final

poll of the 1992 season.

The tide has been ranked, top ranked, 43 times since then under Coach Nick Saban.

So they have been number one 74 times in the history of eight people, and 43 of them have

been under Nick Savan.

And he's only been there, by the way, starting in 08, so, you know, he's done this in the

course of eight seasons.

That's staggering to me.

The other one, Michigan coming in at number seven.

Michigan's a program whose fans like to brag about them being the winningest program of all time, and therefore,

one might think they're right at the top of this list or right near the top of this list,

but, and we've talked about this before, for all those wins, they don't usually finish on top,

and I was surprised to see they've been ranked number one, a total of 34 times, which was much lower than the six teams ahead of them.

And, of course, only two national championships in the AP poll era.
