Summary

In this episode David Farrier sets out to investigate the 7th Day Adventism, a type of Christianity that kicked off in upstate New York in the 1840s. It was a 7th Day Adventist who invented the humble cornflake, a food so bland it was meant to stop boys masturbating - and today the religion boasts 22 million baptized members worldwide. David meets up with Sam Neves, the Associate Director of Communication at General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, before talking to an ex-member who clears up whether it’s a cult or not. In the mailbox segment, David and Rob discuss feedback to the dolphins episode, paying tribute to the Russian Spy beluga whale that passed away, before talking about the US Navy experimenting with sharks as a weapon. How would you?

C-9. Okay, I had a question for the podcast. We're doing an episode about Seventh Day Adventists and I'm

0:56.9

going to look into that what I understand to be sort of American origins. I

1:01.5

was just wondering if you knew anything about Seventh Day Adventists and whether we have them in New Zealand?

1:08.0

Yeah, we absolutely do. I don't know how big they are, but I aware of them I grew up Baptist like you so I'm pretty

1:15.8

across the various Christian sects that we can consider to be heretics and I think

1:22.2

they're probably in the heretic category a little bit but the main

1:28.0

thing I know about them is that they have church on Saturday instead of Sunday, which is a big no-no.

1:35.8

And probably was the root cause of their schism

from what I would consider to be the real church

to the Saturday church. Is there anything else you know about Seventh Day Adventists? I don't know too much about their beliefs. To me if I had to kind of rank them it would be like the Mormons and Jehovah's
