assault on the seat of American democracy.

Special counsel, Jack Smith, has unsealed a new indictment against former President

Trump and connected it with efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction

of an attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and the fourth conspiracy against rights.

Lies by the defendant targeted at obstructing a bedrock function of the U.S. government,

the nation's process of collecting, counting, and certifying the results of the presidential election.

The indictment is the third criminal case brought against Trump as he seeks to reclaim

the White House next year, Smith said that he will push for a speedy trial.

In a statement, the Trump campaign said in part, this latest indictment is nothing more than

the latest corrupt chapter in what the campaign characterized as a politically motivated witch hunts.

Reaction to the indictment starting to come in.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio was among the first to react before

special counsel, Jack Smith, even made the announcement. Jordan wrote on social media,

when you drain the swamp, the swamp fights back. President Trump did nothing wrong.

GOP presidential hopeful and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis focused on a campaign promise,

saying he'd end the weaponization of government, but never mentions the former president by name.

Former Illinois GOP Congressman Adam Kinsinger, who was on the January 6th committee,

called former president Trump a cancer on our democracy, and called Tuesday the beginning of justice.
