He could be set free. I'm Lisa Lacerra. Fox News. The former Columbia University grad student detained for organizing pro-Palestinian protests may not be detained for much longer.

New Jersey federal judge Michael Farbiars has ruled that the Trump administration is blocked from deporting Mahmoud Khalil and is blocking officials from

even detaining him, though he's giving the government until Friday to appeal. Farbiar's notes

the government had two reasons for seeking to deport Khalil, his failure to disclose his past

fully in his application to become a lawful permanent resident, as well as Secretary of

St. Marker Rubio's determination that his anti-Semitic protest

activity was disruptive and threatened U.S. foreign policy goals. The judge wrote, he didn't buy

that Khalil was really being detained due to paperwork issues and said because his career and reputation

have been damaged and his speech is being chilled, this amounts to irreparable harm. He found his

case likely to succeed on the merits.

Fox says Jessica Rosenthal. The State Department says the U.S. is drawing down the presence of

staffers and their families who are not deemed essential to operations in the Middle East,

including Baghdad, Kuwait, and Bonfrain due to the potential for unrest.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and mayors from around the area calling on the

Trump administration to end the immigration raids in California that have sparked protests.

Things began to be difficult on Friday when raids took place. And it's important that I

begin there because that is the cause of the problems that have happened in the city of Los Angeles and other cities.

As says the raids are making residents fearful, the city has put a curfew in effect from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

in the downtown area, as some protests have led to violence and vandalism.
