Several federal agencies are taking steps to prevent immigrants living illegally in the

country from accessing federal benefits, including Head Start, family planning, mental health and

substance abuse support, and workforce development grants. The White House says it is the biggest

step in 30 years to protect taxpayer-funded benefits for American citizens and will preserve $40 billion.

President Trump signed an executive order in February requiring administration officials to

identify all federally funded programs, allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain benefits,

saying at the time there is a compelling government interest to remove incentives for illegal immigration.
