of a small plane crash in Virginia trying to determine why the Cessna on a trip from Tennessee

to New York turned around then flew over Washington DC interrestricted airspace, prompted

the military to scramble fighter jets.

In a statement, Norrad wrote the civilian aircraft was intercepted at approximately 3.20

pm. Eastern time. The pilot was unresponsive and the Cessna subsequently crashed near the

George Washington National Forest in Virginia. Norrad attempted to establish contact with

the pilot until the aircraft crashed.

Now the plane's owner John Rumpel told the New York Times his daughter granddaughter

Nanny and a pilot were on board. No survivors were found in the wreckage.
