Summary

If you’re worried about what others think, listen to this episode.

After seeing a video of two women (who run a podcast) making fun of aspiring creators for posting online, I decided it was time for me to talk about the topic myself. I started this podcast with nothing. I just quit my job, I didn’t have a huge online presence, and I had no idea how or if Trying Not to Care would work. I looked at other podcasters who already had a huge following and loyal listeners. In doing that, I almost allowed the comparison of my show to theirs, to stop me from pursuing my spot in the podcast community.

In today’s episode, I talk about not allowing what others are doing/thinking to steer you away from doing what you want, why it’s not embarrassing to put yourself out there and how to fake it until you make it. Everyone is a "faux-fluencer" before they become an influencer. You have to start somewhere.

So if you're on Instagram or you're on TikTok, you might have seen a clip circulating

0:23.2

of these two women on a podcast talking about faux influencers.

0:27.1

They were basically talking about how they think it's cringy that people post online

0:31.8

as if they're big influencers when they only get one like and only have 10 followers.

0:36.5

And this video was really gross to see, especially because these women are older and they

0:42.7

should know better.

0:44.6

They should know that everyone starts from somewhere unless you're born into wealth or

0:48.8

you're born into a famous family.

0:50.8

Most people have to start from nothing.

0:53.8

And I was watching this video, all I could think about was how I would have felt if I

0:58.5

saw this video two or three years ago, if I saw this video when I was first starting

1:02.6

off on social media when I already had self limiting beliefs and was already doubting

1:07.9

myself.

1:09.3

If I saw these women who have a massive podcast talking about how embarrassing it is for

1:14.8

people to try to become an influencer, I would have just stopped.

1:18.0

I would have stopped posting.

1:19.4

I would have let them get in my head and tell me that it's not worth trying because

1:23.7

I'll never succeed.

1:25.5

And then I realized if I would have felt that way back then, there's people watching

1:31.4

that video right now who feel that way, which is so upsetting.

1:35.6

With all that being said, fuck that video, fuck those women and fuck their opinions.
