Hey Friend! If you've been podcasting for a while, you may have noticed a drop in your downloads and wondered what you're doing wrong. It's easy to get worried when we see lower numbers than we're used to. But the reality is that those numbers from the past were actually inflated and never an accurate reflection of your show's real success. In 2023, Apple made a major change and removed auto-downloads for subscribers. This shift means that downloads now only reflect active listeners, giving us a clearer picture of our audience. However, this can feel like a big hit on a perception basis with the metrics showing our numbers significantly less than they were a year or two ago. So, how do we move forward and redefine success beyond just the download numbers? 0:14.3	Hi friend. I don't know how long you've been podcasting, but I've been a podcaster for a really, really long, long time, six years to be exact. October of 2018, I started this show.
0:18.4	Let me see if that makes sense, 18 to 19 to 2021,
0:20.8	22, 23, 23, 26 years.
0:22.6	Okay, good, I'm good at math, yay me.
0:25.2	And what's crazy, what is absolutely crazy
0:29.1	is that my downloads are lower the they were even years ago.
0:38.4	Now, there's a very simple explanation for this.
0:41.0	Apple made a huge shift back in August, September, October of
0:46.2	2023 where they stopped having subscribers auto download podcast episodes, which means in the past my download numbers were actually
0:57.1	hyper inflated because if somebody subscribed to my show and they didn't ever listen to me. It still downloaded the podcasts and showed in my metrics.
1:07.0	Now all that we actually see is true downloads, like people that are actively clicking your episode to listen. So this is really good that they made this change. However, it's really hard for me on a perception basis to go in and look at my metrics and see my numbers
1:25.7	less than half of what they were a couple of years ago.
1:29.0	It's all like optics, but it still affects me.
1:32.2	So I have to really challenge myself and if you're if you've
1:35.7	been podcasting for over a year you know what I'm talking about because you see the same analytics
1:40.9	on your end right and we have to shift the things that we are looking at
1:47.0	when it comes to podcasting now
1:50.0	to know if our podcast is successful, to know if it's growing, if it's resonating with people,
1:55.5	and we can no longer solely depend on download numbers,
2:00.5	because they're just not what they used to be.
2:02.6	So today I'm going to be walking you through how to know if your show was successful
