Summary

This week we are throwing it back to an episode from 2021 with Tim Knight, one of the most well known turkey bowhunters. Tim is a wealth of knowledge on turkey hunting, where you choose to hunt with a bow or a gun! In this episode we do a deep dive on how Tim scouts to KNOW where a gobbler will end up at some point in the day, how he conceals himself differently than 90% of turkey hunters, his calling style, when to move on a gobbler and a lot more. All right, one feature you need to be using this spring is compass mode on Onex Hunt on your Onyx Hunt app.

0:06.0

Basically what compass mode is, is when you click on it, it orients your map to whatever direction you're facing and it lays a line straight down the middle of that map with marked yardages.

0:16.0

So what that allows you to do is when you hear a bird gobbling off in the distance, you can turn on compass mode, face the bird, and then it's going to lay a line straight towards where that bird is at, and then you can make an estimate of where you think he is. The way that I like to use it, it's been very helpful for me in pinpointing exactly where a gobbler is probably at. So, for instance, if I had one goblin way back here behind me on these ridges, I could turn, orient, and say, okay, at 450 yards, there's a nice ridge point poking out above like a hub or something. That's probably where that turkey is at. So I can drop a pin on his location, and then I've got a pretty good idea of exactly where he is so that I can read my map and I can look,

0:54.6

hey, do I need to go get up above him? Do I need to come straight at him? Do I need to just stay

0:58.0

right here? Whatever the case may be. So it's a very, very useful tool. I encourage you to try it this spring. It's been really nice for us. And hey, if you want a discount on your Anex Elite membership, use the promo code Southern at onexhunt.com and it's going to get you a 20% discount.

1:12.0

Again, that's promo code Southern.

1:13.8

Y'all make sure you use that code because it helps the show out. Nowhere you stand with OnX Hunt. Y'all have heard us talk about them for years, but one of our favorite turkey gun upgrades is a red dot site. And one of the best red dot sites when it comes to turkey hunting is the viper enclosed red dot from vortex optics now the reason that a red dot is so nice

1:32.4

for turkey hunting is because it opens up your site picture it allows you to

1:35.4

actually see what you're aiming at and you're not covering up the turkey with your

1:39.1

site which is especially helpful with modern ammo like TSS where you're shooting a

1:43.4

pretty tight pattern.

1:44.5

One reason that the Viper enclosed red dot is so nice is because it has that enclosed design.

1:49.2

So it's very, very durable, resistant to the elements, and it has a universal mount built right

1:54.3

into the site.

1:55.7

So it's just four screws, screw it down onto your shotgun, boom, you're good to go.

1:59.2

The Viper enclosed red dot is available with a red or a green dot, and they have one that's finished in the South's favorite camo, mossy Oak Bottomland. So y'all go check them out. That is the Viper shotgun enclosed red dot from Vortex Optics. Y'all check it out at vortexoptics.com. When you get into saddle hunting, most people think of comfort coming directly from the saddle itself.

2:21.4

And while that is true, another extremely important factor is having a great platform that gives you a lot of comfort whether you're a leaner or you like to sit in your saddle.

2:31.1

We've been really impressive the last year using the profile saddle platform

2:34.8

from latitude outdoors. This platform is the perfect mix of compact, but having the perfect

2:40.9

ergonomics to keep you comfortable all day long, especially if you like leaning on the platform.

2:45.9

With the angled front of the platform, that gives you a lot more surface area with your leaner,

2:49.9

to great packability from being extremely compact and folding inside of itself. that gives you a lot more surface area with your leaner to great packability
