Hi this is Steve. As you know each week on the Cinephiles we do a deep dive into a single great film.

However, for the first film of 2018, we are tackling something so important, so influential, and so incredibly dense with history,

technique, and just playing great stories that John and I felt that one episode simply wasn't enough.

In fact, we didn't think two episodes were enough or even three.

Instead, we decided that the only way to do this film justice

is to devote four episodes, an entire month of the cinephiles to the movie many

believe to be the greatest ever made.

That's right, the cinephiles is finally digging in to Citizen Kane. Made by 24-year-old

Orson Wells in 1941, Citizen cane is one of the most studied movies in film

history and the stories behind the scenes of this masterpiece

are as fascinating as the ones that play out on screen. Normally we like to give a

brief bio of the people behind whatever film we explore but in the case of Orson Wells A brief

just isn't going to cut it.

Wells is a brilliant, frustrating, endlessly fascinating character

whose talent and personality loom over the film world like few others and

both John and I have had a lifelong obsession with him. So for our first episode in

what we're calling the month of Cain, John and I explore the life, art,

triumphs, failures, excesses, and illusions of the great Orson Wells.

In the following two weeks, our exploration of King continues with not one but two big

episodes breaking down the film and finally we decided to finish the month with the

cinephile's first ever commentary track.
