Today I'm going to talk about the topic of introspection.

And some of you are more prone to this than others, but I believe we all are tempted some time

to look within, to look inside at ourselves in an unfruitful way, to get out the magnifying glass and try to examine our own hearts.

There is a fruitful way to look inward and check our hearts and motives, but there's also an unfruitful way.

And that's the one I'm going to be talking about today.

Now that doesn't sound too evil to be introspective, but the problem is we're no good at it.

We cannot always know ourselves or judge ourselves correctly.

Especially if we're introspecting and we're feeling bad and we're unable to cheer ourselves up,

and we're getting into a funk, and we're unable to lift ourselves back out of it.

And oftentimes, that's what happens with introspection.

So listen to the first six verses of Psalm 139.

O Lord, you have searched me and known me.

1:15.0

You know my sitting down and my rising up.

1:18.0

You understand my thought of far off.

1:20.0

You comprehend my path and my line down and are acquainted with all my ways.

1:25.0

For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, you know it all together.

1:30.0

You have hedged me behind and before and laid your hand upon me.

1:34.0

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me.

1:37.0

It is high. I cannot attain it.

1:41.0

All right, God knows us better than we can ever know ourselves.
