I was in the military, I was in the Air Force, I met my wife in the military.

You either have a point where you're going to get out of the service or you're going to stay in.

And I thought I'm going to get out because I'm going to need a job eventually.

So I get out, my wife gets out and we're working and we're struggling.

One bedroom apartment, Hartthorne, small child just working.

I went to a job fair. I met some folks on Ontario PD I applied for

the job and my wife didn't want me to do it my mother didn't want me to do it but I was like man I got to

pay these bills I got to pay these bills I got to put some milk in her right right right I had actually

thought about being a CHP officer because I said they just write tickets versus arresting people

oh I'm serious.

It was a stigma of being a black man in this profession.

And, you know, the more I started looking into it, the more I enjoyed it, the more

excited I got.

Put on my big boy pants and told my wife, this is what I'm doing.

And we moved out this way, started being a police officer.
