Welcome back to the podcast. My name is Joseph Clough and this is episode 752. Now in today's episode,

0:09.3

we are talking about living up to others' expectations. This is one of my favorite subjects

0:17.1

because I think most of us, many people in the world, will live up to expectations which

0:23.3

aren't even ours. I mean, think about it. How crazy is it to begin to live up to other people's

0:30.5

expectations and carry our whole life that way? Are we living our own life? Are we living society's life? Are we living other people's

0:41.7

life? Our parents, our siblings, our friends. All of those things have a big impact on us. And the reason

0:51.3

why I wanted to choose this subject today, because on my travels, I was on my phone

0:56.6

and I saw this picture and I cannot remember where I got it from, but it was like a billboard,

1:02.8

whether it's a mock one or not.

1:04.4

But on this billboard, it said, your idea of me is not my responsibility to live up to. Your idea of me is not my responsibility to live up to your idea of me is not my

1:16.4

responsibility to live up to now to me I think that's pretty pretty powerful it is

1:22.3

something that we should all recognize within ourselves but the problem the real problem is that we operate in such

1:31.5

an unconscious way that we forget whose life we're living I mean whose life are we living

1:39.2

you see ever since we were young coming into this wild a little baby we've only know what we've

1:48.2

observed think about it you don't know what you don't know until it comes into your reality and

1:55.0

knowing we don't know what we don't know from a very young age we begin begin to assume these ideas for life. We begin to assume

2:05.0

of what we think is right. They become our values. Our observations become our reflections.

2:13.4

Those observations become our projection of how we see reality because we don't see reality in an objective way.

2:23.3

We don't.

2:24.3

It is really impossible to see reality in an objective way because we have beliefs, we have values, we have personality traits, we have language and culture, we have society,

2:38.4

we have all of these things which muddy the water of our perception. So if we are perceiving what we

2:46.1

think is true, we begin to replicate it and it becomes our story.
