who share experiences, tools, and insights to help our listeners along their journeys. In rehab, my head counselor there had basically asked the same thing. Like, well, you have a second chance of life. You've chosen to stick around. So why? What are you going to do with it? I didn't even hesitate. I said, write a book. I want to write and finish a book. So he just gave me a level

stare and he's like, okay, when we're done here, you're going to go to the cafeteria and you're

going to start writing. You know, I had a blank notebook and I did exactly what he told me to do.

I'm delighted to bring you our featured guest, Thomas Hewlett. Welcome, Thomas.

Hi. Thank you for having me.

It is our pleasure. Thomas, are you using your talents doing work that you love?

I definitely am, yes. All righty. Well, we want to hear the whole story. Thomas M. Hewlett grew up in Los Angeles

reading science fiction, fantasy, and all things paranormal. His plan was always to be a writer, but he strayed from the path and into drugs and alcohol

addiction.

In 2011, he hit rock bottom and ended up in rehab.

At his lowest point, he rediscovered the power of writing and started his first novel,

One Death at a Time, a combination of his experiences

of addiction, recovery, with his love of modern fantasy and noir mystery. Writing saved Thomas's

life and became his way of telling a new story about himself. Well, Thomas, that's a summary of

your career. Tell our listeners around the world what you're engaged in now that has you excited and motivated, if you would, please.

Right now I am writing a new book, and this is a challenge I set out for myself to write in a new genre, and it's something I've never done before, and it's got me really excited.

Oh, my gosh. Can you share the genre? Yes. It's a conventional mystery genre

with a few twists of my own. I'm drawn to the noir mysteries, but this is not something a little
