Welcome back to the peripheral. This is going to be kind of a special episode, releasing early,

because I had been trying to get this episode out at the time where my guest had released his book.

But due to COVID and some other scheduling issues, that didn't happen.

So on today's episode, I'm speaking with Clancy Martin.

He is a professor at UMKC, which is a university right down the street from me that I actually attended for a semester or a year back in the 90s.

I don't remember now.

Clancy just released a book called How Not to Kill Yourself.

And it's sort of a loose autobiography of his life with a focus on his suicidal ideation and

attempts.

He had had multiple attempts over his lifetime and has finally pulled himself out of that

dark place and decided to write a book about it. During our discussion, you'll hear us joke and laugh

because I'm trying to, I'm trying to bring a little levity to a dark subject. We talk about his book in great

detail. Hopefully, you'll get something out of the interview without having read his book. We

cover a lot of topics. I highly recommend his book. I highly recommend that you read it. It covers

a lot of bases about suicide.

We talk about solutions for anyone that's in an acute situation or a more chronic state.

And hopefully hearing a very frank and raw conversation about it will be helpful.

I always want someone to seek help, call somebody if they are in a crisis situation.
