Hello everyone and welcome to Luke's English podcast. This episode is about Steve Jobs, the

former CEO of Apple Computers who sadly died yesterday from pancreatic cancer. Now you probably

know Steve Jobs, a very famous business leader. He's the guy who set up Apple Computers back in the 1970s or 1980s I believe.

And he's the guy who brought us these incredible innovations like the iPod and the iPhone and the iPad.

He's the one who many people believe has changed the world with these innovations, these new gadgets.

That's debatable.

Some people think that they can't live without their iPhone. What we know for sure is that he achieved a hell of a lot in his life and he was incredibly successful and many people use him as an example of a great business leader, the sort of person who can use charisma

and energy and drive and enthusiasm and ideas to push his vision all the way through from just having an idea all the way

through the development process, all the way through the marketing process to bring these

products onto the market and make them

incredibly successful and make people feel that they can't live without

them. That's certainly maybe his greatest achievements to make people feel that they can't live without certain new products.

The iPod, for example, incredible design, just making the MP3 player so simple.

So many clever features about the iPod, the fact that it uses that central wheel,

the wheel that you use to browse through your music, the fact that he combined that

with iTunes software, and then of course the iPhone which brought so many things together into one place, into a

smartphone in your hand and did it in a better way than any of the other competitors. He did it so well that everyone felt like they had to

have an iPhone or at least you know a lot of people felt they had to have an iPhone.

And then of course the iPad, which many people think that is completely unnecessary.

It received quite a lot of criticism, but the fact is that it was the first step in a new direction for computers
