I've reached a point in my life and my career now that I know how incredibly blessed I have been.

You know, no matter what happens, you know, if the world collapses tomorrow, I've been hugely blessed.

I know that.

As an actor, you can do so much to enhance your career, but there is a huge proportion of it.

That's down to being in the room at the time, knowing the right person, someone liking you.

There isn't anything in my career that you can say, ah, I should have done that, I would have been more.

Nah, it doesn't work that way. We have the option in the choices we make in life. And very often, the easiest choice, the easiest road to go down, sometimes is not the right road.

Sometimes we need to challenge ourselves and face up to the harder road,

Well, I've been a fan of your work for a long time, so it's lovely to have this conversation.

Can I ask you, was it a childhood

ambition to be an actor or was it something that just happened? My father was an actor, Paul.

So I sort of knew the environment of the profession, but at a sort of unusual upbringing.

You know, we lived in Clyde Bank, the shipbuilding area at that time of Glasgow,

quite a, you know, it was a working class industrial area and my dad was away quite a lot,
