Summary

In this raw and vulnerable episode of The Choose Hard Podcast, Cody McBroom sits down with Nick Love, Head Trainer at Tailored Coaching Method and the coach behind Cody’s own training programs. For the first time, Cody opens up about the personal health struggles he’s faced over the last 6–12 months—including injuries, sleep issues, caffeine dependence, and fatigue—and how they’ve impacted his performance, health, and mindset.

Together, Cody and Nick unpack the reality of burnout, stress management, and why even coaches need coaching. They also dive into the game plan for rebuilding Cody’s body and health, including:

  • - Addressing stress and recovery head-on

  • - The role of smarter training programming in rebuilding strength

  • - Strategies to improve sleep, energy, and recovery

  • - Why handing control to a trusted coach can help break cycles of overwork and neglect

  • - Practical steps anyone can use to overcome fatigue, manage stress, and train smarter

  • This episode is a reminder that health is a lifelong pursuit—and even coaches, leaders, and high performers need to step back, reassess, and rebuild.

If you’ve ever dealt with burnout, nagging injuries, or the feeling that your health is slipping, this conversation will give you insight, strategies, and the encouragement to take action.

In this episode of the Choose Hard podcast, I have trainer and coach from the tailored coaching

    0:05.7

method team, Nick Love. Between Nick Love and Cody McBroom, we decided that this is going to be

    0:10.9

the McLevin series. Yes, that is a dad joke. I think it's funny. I hope you do too. But today,

    0:16.3

in all seriousness, today is this is going to be a really cool episode for you to listen to

    0:19.8

because I'm being extremely vulnerable with this episode of the podcast because I have run my body down. I train a lot.

    0:27.4

I have just grinding myself into the dirt with business and my professional life. There's been a

    0:33.5

lot that has gone down in the last couple years for me that has just worn on me. I've been sleeping less than six hours a night for over a year straight drinking. I can't even describe how much caffeine, but I'm going to admit how much caffeine I was drinking on this podcast. So I had some injuries and some scares and was like, I really need to focus on my health. So I started making some changes. I told Nick on my staff because he is the most

    0:54.2

passionate, knowledgeable, and experienced trainer we have and the industry has. Honestly, he's one of the top guys when it comes like, I mean, this dude is just one, he's extremely smart with training, but two, he loves training. He embodies it. So you're going to feel that passion. And I actually asked him. I was like, dude, I need you to take over my training. I need your help. Please take over my training.

    0:50.9

We need to rebuild Boom Boom.

    0:52.2

    And he didn't even hesitate.

    0:53.8

    He's like, let's go.

    0:54.4

So he's been training me. I feel amazing. And it's literally just in the first month of working together. So I'm really excited for you to listen this because you're going to hear a very transparent side of myself and my training. And what we're doing to fix these injuries I'm going through in this poor mobility and movement and honestly just overstressed, overtax, burn the candle both ends.

    1:11.4

Really good podcast. Two coaches connecting, talking about how to fix somebody who is really just pushed their body too far, their mental and emotional side of themselves as well too far and just tone it down, de-stress, recover, form better, move better. Coach Nick Love has helped me so much

    1:44.4

already, and I'm so excited for this. He's been with the team for five years. This is his first

    1:47.2

appearance on the Shoes Hard podcast, and I'm very excited to introduce him, and I'm very excited for you

    1:50.8

to hear what he is doing to help me, because if you're somebody like me who has bad movement,

    1:55.0

you have let your health kind of slide or you just too stressed. This podcast can help you a lot. So without any further ado, let's talk to the one and only coach Nick Love.

    2:03.8

The greatest things in life all start with a challenge.

    2:07.6

You must accept that everything is hard before it gets easy.
