Summary

CHOOSE THE PATH OF MOST RESISTANCE. Do you avoid challenging yourself? If you do, you’re cheating yourself of reaching your full potential. There is so much you can learn through pain. But we want to avoid it. We want to stay in our comfort zone. Growth, though, is found in the discomfort zone. You have to have the courage to face sickness, disappointment, and discomfort. That’s why I’m so excited to share this conversation I had with someone who has mastered the art of using pain as a way to better himself: David Goggins. David Goggins is a retired Navy SEAL and is the only member of the U.S. Armed Forces to complete SEAL training (including two Hell Weeks), the U.S. Army Ranger School (where he graduated as Enlisted Honor Man) and Air Force Tactical Air Controller training. David is indisputably one of the world’s best endurance athletes. He has completed over 60 endurance races, regularly placing in the top five and taken home first place several times. David says that if don’t give yourself a way out, your body will figure out a way to persevere. We are capable of so much more than we know. Mental toughness isn’t a class, it’s a lifestyle. Learn how to change your outlook on the “bad things” that happen to you and to be excited about what you can learn through hardship on Episode 715. Some Questions I Ask: What was the hardest obstacle to overcome growing up? (16:53) What was the greatest lesson your mom taught you? (25:04) When someone’s lacking confidence, how can they gain more? (33:37) What’s your biggest insecurity? (36:21) Do you have any fears today? (1:11:52) What’s the greatest lesson your father taught you? (1:26:50) In This Episode You Will Learn: What made David apply for the Military (23:04) What David believes the key to life is (35:44) Why getting sick was the best thing that ever happened to David (37:43) About the 40 Percent Rule (38:49) How to retrain your mind when you want to seek comfort (41:10) What haunts David the most (47:33) The importance of long-term gratification (1:04:20) Why you need to be quiet with yourself to succeed (1:11:08) David’s morning routine (1:17:18)
