Summary

Ever wonder why your perfectly planned 15-step morning routine keeps falling apart, or why that expert advice feels like it's missing the mark? In this episode, we explore seven powerful universal laws β€” from Gall's Law to Hanlon's Razor β€” that reveal the hidden patterns shaping our decisions, our confidence, and our capacity to grow.

We break down why simplicity always beats complexity, how your greatest strengths can quietly become blind spots, and why the happiest people aren't surrounded by better humans β€” they just make more generous interpretations. Through the lens of awareness, intention, and action, discover how recognizing these laws can lower unnecessary stress and help you show up with more clarity in every area of your life.

Hello everybody. Welcome back to Jason Excellence. I'm Patrick. I'm here with Ben. How are you, my friend?

0:41.6

Great. Thanks, Patrick. How are you doing? Great as well. I'm excited for this. It's one of those conversations that, like, as I'm getting ready for it, I think, how cool is it that I get to do this?

0:52.5

That's awesome. That's what I got. That's what I'm feeling today.

We're going to do a couple, I don't know, maybe a couple months ago. We had our friend Mark England on. We talked about something called Kidland's Law, which is something he introduced to us. And that must have been in the back of my mind. And then Seth Godin wrote a blog post that he called Gall's Law, G-A-L-L-A-L-A-L-A-S law. And so I just got it stuck on my head. So I started just randomly Googling and Wikipediaing, like, what are all these other laws that like we've heard about before? And so I started kind of collecting ones that I felt like, oh, that'd be kind of fun to talk to Ben about. And so that's what we've got. I've got 10. I don't know if we're

1:27.9

going to get to 10. We may get to five. Who knows? We've got 10 in front of us of these universal

1:33.9

laws, these laws to live by. And so I thought it would just be fun to talk through some of them

1:39.4

and see where the conversation goes. And obviously we're going to bring the perspective of

1:43.1

chasing excellence to these, the five factors, awareness, intention, action, health, happiness,

1:48.6

hearts on fire, the things we talk about here. But I thought these are fun, useful laws to

1:55.0

sort of have in the back of our minds and our back pockets as we go through our days to see

2:00.7

if we can't try to live or at

2:02.1

least recognize them and live a bit more in accordance with them. Cool. Yeah, yeah, I dig it.

2:08.1

I'm glad you're excited about this. I am too. This would be kind of fun and thinking out loud a

2:13.0

little bit for us. So I love when we get to do that. So I'm going to start with the first one.

2:16.0

I already mentioned, Galslaw, which is the one that Seth Godin wrote a short blog post about, and I'd never heard

2:20.3

before. So Gaul's Law is a complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a

2:27.6

simple system that worked. A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work.
