Before we begin, it's been reported that the New South Wales Police Force missing persons unit will be shut down,

due to poor leadership and under-resourcing.

News Corporation newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, ran a story claiming families of the long-term

missing have been left in limbo, while unidentified human bones, stored in boxes for

years, have not been tested against DNA. They reported a discrete project is now underway to match any long-term missing persons cases.

We contacted New South Wales police for comment and they replied in writing. The New South Wales Police Force is

reviewing the operations of the missing persons unit. This process involves

examining the current structure, staffing and objectives of the unit.

No determination has been made and there will be no further comment

until the plans are finalised.
