Summary

I have a gift for you today: It’s a 7-minute meditation that will help the anxious, reactive parts of you relax, so you can let your highest Self take over. Is there a part of you that worries excessively, trying to outsmart the future? Maybe there’s a part that overeats, trying to stuff down big feelings … or a controlling part that’s addicted to work. If you can relate to any of this, you are not alone! Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy teaches us that we all have “protector” parts working valiantly to keep us safe. But true safety comes when we can help these parts relax. Today’s Dear Gabby offers a beautiful guided meditation that will let you do just that.   The following are helpful resources and books I mention in the episode:  To learn more about IFS, listen to my Dear Gabby BIG TALK with IFS founder Dick Schwartz and my live talk about the Self-to-part connection. https://bit.ly/3xaDQkX Want even more support? I created the Miracle Membership to help you design a spiritual practice you can stick to—so you can feel connected, supported and inspired every day. Each week I deliver brand new workshops, guided meditations, community connection and so much more. Plus, I lead a different challenge each quarter to give you a spiritual jumpstart in every area of your life. The membership is easy to access on your phone, computer or tablet. Welcome back to deer Gabby. I'm really excited. I did something really special for you.

I took the meditation from episode 81, the episode on how to honor your addictive patterns

0:15.3

through internal family systems. I took this beautiful meditation out of the episode.

0:20.6

And I decided to make it its own practice, its own episode, so that you could just return to it

0:27.2

and use it to help settle your system, to help bring your nervous system to a place of peace,

0:33.6

and to allow yourself to connect to the most profound part of you, the part of you that is the

0:40.1

compassionate, courageous, confident, curious part of you. And that is known as self with a capital S.

0:47.9

Self is thinking in spiritual terms as your higher self or the universe or the God within you.

0:53.6

But when we're connected to self, we have this internal presence that can really

0:58.8

regulate and calm and find solutions. And we also have these parts of us that are very much

1:07.0

in protector mode and in IFS, they're known as protector parts. And protectors can be the

1:12.4

controlling parts, protectors can be the parts of you that are addicted. The goal of this meditation

1:18.5

is to help you relax those protector parts and connect to enough of that self energy so that

1:25.2

you can really feel that energy take over and calm your internal system. If you want to learn

1:30.7

more about internal family systems there, you can read my book Happy Days, the guided path from

1:35.4

trauma to profound freedom and inner peace. Inside Happy Days, I have an entire chapter based on IFS

1:42.5

and how we have these different parts of ourselves and how when we connect to self,

1:46.7

everything can be soothed. So before we begin the meditation, I want you to think of a protector part

1:52.3

that we can work with. And once again, a protector part could be an addictive behavior,

1:57.1

it could be a way that you might be hiding out, it could be a way that you overcompensate.

2:02.4

For me, a protector was the controlling part of me, also the addict part of me. If there's
