I began to think about the life in the restaurant business and possibly starting a family and the hours and I decided maybe there's a little more flexibility and a little more interest to why not just sell wine rather than

I try to do it on the side and I came from the Washington DC area so I had become aware that Washington was something of a of a center for retail purchase of wine or at least it was certainly one of the only places in the world where I'd seen and been into wine shops and realized that there was some serious opportunity there.

So I figured if they're, you know, reasonably looking wine shop puts out an ad for somebody to run their

wine department.

I'll bring them up and we'll see what happens.

I kind of, even though my experience was still limited,

especially European wine,

soon of my background spent time in a German university

and you know fair bit of time in Europe when I was a child

so I figured correctly as it turned out that if you

if you knew how to pronounce the French and German names

well you probably would come off sounding like you knew what you were talking about

even if you were relatively ignorant as it was at the time so I ended up getting the first job that I am that

I have first job offer that I responded to in in Washington DC and that became the first of three shops that I ran

sequentially in D.C.

And who was in that, though, you at that time?

Yeah, well, that's the massive amazing thing about D.C. in that period.
