It is better to make less money doing something you love than to do something you don't enjoy in order to make more money, but it is better to purposely think of a way to make as much money as you desire in a way that you love showing up every single day.

Hey everybody welcome back to the Chris Harder Show is another money Monday here where we talk all things money and where we absolutely believe that both prosperity and generosity can and must coexist.

All right so share a little story with you I'm up here at the lake house still and I've gotten a personal trainer to work me out once or twice a week at the local gym here.

Now we were talking today about career options and money and some of the businesses that Lori and I are wrapped up in and he started to express that he would love to find a way to make more money than he does right now and that he's been tempted to maybe go pursue some other jobs that he's seen people get.

Now what was interesting was these were jobs that were totally unrelated to his area of expertise these were jobs that were totally unrelated to anything that he would enjoy doing is my fact when I pressed him on these other jobs.

He actually said you know I don't think I'd really be interested in them but I hear of these guys making all this money in said job.

And then of course that went on to us to have a couple of conversations and we had a couple conversations about what it looks like to build a online personal training brand for himself because he's never explored something like that before but has the hunch that he would like to control his own career and be able to make it scalable is trading his time for money.

And I said to him in all this conversation I said you know there's two truths that I want to share with you about making money and how you make your money and these truths will really make or break the short life that we all get to experience down here on earth.

The first truth is this it is better to make less money doing something you love then to do something you don't enjoy in order to make more money.

And I know this might sound crazy right we talk about maximizing your earning potential we talk about different ways to make money and we talk about how to always think bigger on the show but the first truth is you will lead a much better life a far better life making less money doing something you love every day.

Then you will doing something that you don't love just for the money never forget that you know I have been in both positions in life so I speak from experience when it comes to this first truth.

You'll always get used to the new amount of money you're making if you're making 50 grand and you think a hundred grand will fix everything in your life when you start making a hundred if you're doing it in a way you don't enjoy you won't enjoy that hundred thousand dollars.

Your life doesn't get any better it might get worse if you're at a hundred and you say gosh 200 grand would fix everything in my life and I'd be willing to do anything for that 200 grand.

The truth is when you get there you get used to that amount of money and so the novelty of that wears off and if you're doing something you don't enjoy then your life actually goes backwards.

And if you're making 200 you want to make a half million if you're making a half million you want to make a million if you're making a million you want to make 10 million let me tell you when you get there you get used to the money so the special feeling wears off but doing it in a way that you do not enjoy that you are reminded of every day and it is not worth ever doing something just for the money if you know you're not going to enjoy it.

So that's the first truth I would rather make a little less money and do something I love to do something I don't like every single day for more money but then the second truth I think is even more important and even more powerful and it is this it is better to purposely think of a way to make as much money as you desire in a way that you love showing up every single day.

And while this may sound like common sense to you this is where people stop short when I have interactions about money every single day in conversations in my DMs with clients you name it this is where people stop short people either spend their life struggling to get by financially but enjoying what they do and that's okay like I said I'd rather error on that side than the other side or they make a ton of money.

And they hate what they do every single day and it's robbing them of life and it's robbing them of energy and one day they're going to look back and say I wish I had a few less things and a lot more good times and so the solution to those two situations of course is the second truth about money and that is it is far better to sit down and challenge yourself and say alright why do I have to have one or the other.
