First, I'd just like to mention how wonderful it was to meet so many of you at Grace Agenda last weekend and the Feminine Preconference.

So today I want to talk with you about an old favorite passage from Luke 11, 9 and 10.

So I say to you, ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find.

Knock and it will be open to you. For everyone who asks receives and he who seeks finds and to him who knocks, it will be opened.

In this passage, Jesus then gives us two illustrations. One is a friend coming at midnight and asking for bread for his guest.

And with enough knocking, the friend will eventually get up and give him the bread.

The second illustration, what father will give his son a stone when he asks for bread or give him a snake instead of a fish or give him a scorpion when he asks for an egg.

The concluding verse says this, how much more will your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?

So if God has promised to give us the Holy Spirit when we cry out for salvation, won't he continue to provide the bread or the fish or the egg that you need?

So Christ is telling us to keep bringing our request to God for all things for food, for a job, for the money to pay the bills, for your housing, for a husband, for a friend, for a daughter, for a child, for everything there's no limit.

He has not set up barriers and said, you may not ask for these things that you need only for your salvation and then you're on your own.

It's like, no, how much more he urges us to ask.

And if he wants us to ask for physical things like bread and a fish, then it's obviously the case that he wants us to ask for spiritual things as well, like wisdom or grace.

Or faith or for patience or for endurance or for courage.

He wants us asking. He delights to give us what we need.

So the bottom line is this, God wants you to ask him for everything you need and you should never give up asking.

That's why he uses that illustration of the friend that keeps banging on the door in the dead of night until his friend gets up and gives him what he needs.

And you know, it's good for us to ask. It's healthy for us to be asking and it reminds us that God is our father and that we are his child.

It reminds us how dependent upon him we are for everything.
