0:00.0 | Everyone, Vancouver Radio, I do hope you're having an awesome day. Tom, are you having an awesome day? |
0:11.0 | Yeah, man, good. For the first time in a while, I managed to get myself together last night so that this morning I could take the dog out before sunrise. |
0:20.0 | So we were out when it was dark with my little head torture on like a mall. |
0:25.0 | And then we were kind of just out walking in the countryside as the sun came up, which is really cool. |
0:30.0 | I love doing that this time of year because sunrise is like a respectable time. |
0:34.0 | Again, doing that at four in the morning, but yeah, it's a little benefit of autumn. |
0:39.0 | Hey, that's nice. Today, where I am, it's the proper first proper cold day. It was nine degrees when I went for a walk. |
0:47.0 | That must be at least minus 19 up where you are in Durham. |
0:52.0 | It was pretty chilly. It was definitely like hoodie and trousers, whether rather than short and a t-shirt. |
0:58.0 | It's not too bad yet. It's going to be warm today. We've got another couple of months of it being reasonable. |
1:05.0 | Like knowing the benefits of being outside and walking and just nature. |
1:12.0 | I wonder how many people actually make time that don't have a dog because this is an obvious dog owner thing. |
1:19.0 | Of getting outside in the morning, even if it's just for 10 minutes and getting some crisp fresh air. |
1:25.0 | You know, just seeing the outdoors, feeling the outdoors because I think it's great to just wake up and kind of connect and give your. |
1:33.0 | Your mind some space and I'd be intrigued by how many people actually do it that aren't dog owners. |
1:39.0 | Yeah, I spoke about this on Instagram recently. I think a lot of people do, but we tend to think of it as going out to get my steps in. |
1:47.0 | And I think that's, it's not ideal because usually people say, I need to get 10,000 steps, which we've spoken about before. It's like an arbitrary figure. |
1:55.0 | 10,000 steps was made up to sell pedometers around like the Tokyo Olympics. And I want to say like the 40s or the 50s. |
2:04.0 | So yeah, 10,000 steps is like arbitrary. And the problem with that arbitrary number is not that it's a bad number because if you hit 10,000 steps, that's good. It's pretty active, etc. |
2:13.0 | But it leads people to think like, oh, 7,000 steps isn't enough. So people will choose to walk around like a house in a state or somewhere a bit boring and get there 10,000 steps over going somewhere that's actually quite nice to be if you've got the opportunity to do so. |
2:34.0 | Obviously, not everyone has the opportunity to do this. But if you've got the opportunity to walk somewhere that's a bit green and you only get 6,000 steps. |
2:42.0 | I would argue that that's still a really good use of time. And I think frame in your, your walking as walking rather than just getting my steps in that like little change of mindset probably changes the way people approach it. |
