Summary

A listener call from 2019!

Stefan Molyneux speaks with a caller about her transition from liberal ideas to a conservative skepticism. She looks back on how social justice stories molded her earlier views and the strain of conforming in group settings. They talk over her time in a liberal college atmosphere that pushed her to question her politics, including the role of men in feminist debates and media takes on events like Black Lives Matter protests. The chat points to the value of checking out varied opinions and keeping discussions civil amid divisions.

Well, hi, everybody, Siffan Walley from Freedom, I'm here with...

0:03.0

And I guess you have a tale to tell about breaking out of the old Democratic Party these days.

0:09.8

I do, and it's been, you know, such a long journey for me.

0:14.9

As you know, I used to be very, very liberal.

0:18.1

In fact, I was a very Tumblr liberal, I guess you could say.

0:22.8

I'm not sure what that. I don't really spend much time on Tumblr. What does that mean?

0:27.2

Basically, it's people who think, you know, Black Lives Matter. Women are oppressed in America.

0:32.6

There's a gender pay gap going on. Whites are very privileged in America. And as a frequent humbler user,

0:40.3

I ate up a lot of that type of rhetoric. Well, it's pretty compelling, right? I mean,

0:45.0

it explains a lot of things, and it allows people to feel aggrieved and angry, and it allows

0:51.5

them to take their frustrations out on institutions rather than

0:54.6

anyone who might be more immediate in their social or familial circle. So it's, it really is kind of

1:01.0

like a brain crack, you know, like it's really addictive and it seems pretty compelling.

1:06.2

Oh, it really is. And especially being someone who's biracial, it really appealed to me a lot because I felt that

1:12.6

if as a woman I'm feeling oppressed in this country, you know, that should be something I should

1:18.0

be fighting for. You know, what is wrong with fighting for other women who feel that they're being

1:24.0

oppressed in this country? Yeah, no, and what is your racial lineage?

1:29.1

I'm actually half Asian and half white.

1:31.8

Okay, got it, got it.

1:34.0

And just out of curiosity, I mean, some of the stuff that I've read and talked about on

1:38.0

Twitter is that some people who grow up biracial, or I guess tri-racial, or more,

1:47.1

have some challenges feeling, I guess, tri-racial or more, have some challenges feeling, I guess,
