0:00.0 | Yo, today's QOT is the important thing is not what happens to you. It's what you do with it. Here we go |
0:30.0 | Welcome back to the quote of the day show. I'm your host Sean Crox and a Sean Crox and calm. Happy Monday to you. I hope you had the most wonderful weekend ever and we're gonna get this week |
0:45.0 | started off the right way with Michael wicked today Michael is gonna talk about that one thing that separates those who succeed and those who don't. He calls it the golden key that can open any door in your life. He's talking about persistence. Here's Michael. |
1:06.0 | My own personal mentor and teacher Dr. Bill McGreen from the self-esteem, superlative communication student since an addy. He uses a purple pen virtually all the time. And the reason that he uses a purple pen is because to him purple denotes royalty. He's in the people business. That is to remind him that self-esteem principles mean that you deal with all people like the royalty that they are. |
1:36.0 | Despite the outer appearances. Sometimes we might not always act like royalty. How many of you've had such a moment recently. Sometimes it may not appear to family and friends that were royalty. In fact, how many of you are close family members would be stunned if you told them you were royalty. I got here just in time. |
2:04.0 | When I think of royalty. I think of a palace. And when I think of a palace, I think of all the treasures that are inside and I always think that there'd probably be one huge lock on the front door. And I think life can be like a palace. I think life can offer a lot of treasure for all of us, but we got to get through the door. |
2:28.0 | Now, if there were one door that was the entrance to a palace, I believe that the key would probably be solid. So tonight is about a golden key to great outcomes. Old Italian proverb said, a gold key opens every door. |
2:47.0 | I think the gold key we'll talk about tonight will open the doors to help you get more of the good things you want. And the golden key I'm going to talk about is persistence. Keeping on, keeping on, and never quitting. If there's something that is important to you and something that you want to accomplish or something you want to become. And you know what's interesting. How many of you want to have great career success? Lots of money. |
3:17.0 | Lots of money in a hurry. We look at men and women who have done great things in business and earn a lot of money and we tend to think that they were born with a special genius gene. |
3:32.0 | That maybe we didn't get. We tend to think that they are some intellectual level and we're not at that level and that's why they're so successful. And I say that's rarely the case. |
3:44.0 | In the case of scientists and biologists, I believe intellectual brilliance is valuable other than that. It's really not about brilliance. I don't believe. |
3:52.0 | I think it's about persistence. There was a man named Art Fry who was sitting in a Sunday church service very bored. And he got an idea for some little yellow sticky notes that he could paste on the church himnals and take off without leaving a mark. |
4:11.0 | He worked for the 3M company. He thought it would be a wonderful product for them to sell. He went back to his company with the idea of these little yellow Post-it notes. They were overwhelmed in their feeling that it had no future. |
4:27.0 | But Art Fry really believed there was a market so he persisted and he persisted and he persisted and four years went by. And he was still asking the 3M company to market the Post-it notes. He wouldn't give up finally in desperation. They said, okay, we'll give it a try. |
4:42.0 | So in Boise, Idaho, they gave away Post-it notes free. And then asked people if these were available in stores, would you buy them? The majority of people said yes. So then over four years later, 3M started marketing the yellow Post-it notes. How many of you ever used them? |
5:02.0 | All but one. And this is a big crowd. Today, there's over 350 varieties of Post-it notes. It is one of the best selling office products in the world. Genius or a good idea that took an enormous amount of thank you. |
5:28.0 | I'm convinced the majority of men and women that do great things in business are probably relatively bright and they know a little bit about their product or service because you have to have product knowledge. But above all, they've got that one golden key. They're willing to and they're willing to go at it and go at it and go at it and go at it and they never ever, ever, ever quit. They just don't quit. |
5:53.0 | So, you know, I'm not saying that. How many of you have at least one really important thing in your life you want to accomplish? Then you got to get on track for it and you got to go for it and you got to stay with it and you never under any circumstances even remotely think of quitting. |
6:09.0 | So, what we often mistake for genius is tremendous long-term persistence in disguise. You see, when you go out in pursuit of your purpose, you may get some rejections, nod your head if you ever had me. |
6:23.0 | You may have a few doubters who don't see the value of your idea and your talent nod your head if that's ever happened. Now, listen to this please. The important thing in life is not what happens to you. |
6:36.0 | The important thing is your reaction to what has happened to you. Tragedies, problems, illness, difficulties, bad breaks, setbacks, everybody's had something. |
6:52.0 | There's very few people that go through life unscathed that don't have some problems or difficulties. But the important thing is not what happens to you. It's what you do with it. It's what you decide to do after you've had a setback of difficulty, a problem or a tragedy. |
