This is John Batchel, a conversation with colleague Henry Sikolsky of the Armed for Liberation Policy Education Center,

about two declassified communications, one dated 1954, another dated 1977,

indicating that 20% enriched uranium is enough to build a bomb.

The distinction here is important because 20% is being used as a number

to fuel the small modular reactors that are a very hot item in Washington right now

for the investor class and the political class.

Henry here comments on the political

class embracing small modular reactors. Why? Because artificial intelligence and its tech centers

need an enormous amount of electricity without burdening the residential population of a whole state

such as Virginia. So SMRs are suddenly a good thing to talk about despite the reservations of many,

especially the Democratic Party about nukes over the decades.

I think that's right.

The Democrats are so wound up about global warming. They've warmed

to any carbon-free generation of electricity, including nuclear, and they're very indiscriminate

as to what kinds of reactors and what kinds of fuels they are backing.

That was a problem under Biden.

It's just gotten worse under the Trump administration.

But I wouldn't say it's a partisan issue.

I think both parties are too much in love with this in a non-critical way.
