Summary
In December of 2015 Jake Ricks was informed that he would be facing an LDS disciplinary council for apostasy, based on a series of benign Facebook posts he made during the previous year. On January 3rd, 2016 the disciplinary council was held (with Jake and his wife, Hannah, in attendance), and the decision of “no action” was determined by his stake president. This is Jake and Hannah’s Story. (audio version to come)

| 0:31.0 | Hello and welcome to another edition of Mormon Stories podcast. I'm your host John DeLin. Currently it's December 28th, 2015. |
| 1:00.0 | It's 7.56pm, Mountain Time. And today we have a very exciting kickoff to a small series. We are interviewing Jacob Ricks and Hannah Ripple Ricks. |
| 1:14.0 | And the reason why we're interviewing them is because Jacob has been summoned to a disciplinary council on January 3rd, 2016. |
| 1:25.0 | So following up, we've covered Kalees' communication, we've talked a bit about mine, we covered Rock Watermans, we covered Marisa and Carson Calderwood. |
| 1:36.0 | And this is sort of the next individual in Jacob's case that's willing to talk about their disciplinary council beforehand and afterwards. |
| 1:47.0 | And so here's how it's going to roll. We're interviewing Jacob at Hannah today on December 28th. |
| 1:54.0 | We're going to talk about their background as members of the church and their sort of transition out of Orthodox belief all the way through to what led to Jacob being summoned to disciplinary council. |
| 2:07.0 | And I have to say for what I've heard so far, it's surprisingly benign what Jacob is being called in for, but we'll let the listeners decide. |
| 2:16.0 | And I just can't imagine you being actually communicated for what you're being called on the carpet for, but it'll be really interesting to see. |
| 2:23.0 | So we're going to talk about all that. Then Jacob and Hannah plan to record the disciplinary council. |
| 2:30.0 | It is legal to do so in the state where they live. So they are going to record that. We hope to share that as part of this podcast series if that recording goes well. |
| 2:42.0 | And then the plan is to also interview Jacob and Hannah after their disciplinary council and sort of release that as a three part series. |
| 2:51.0 | Again, trying to shine light on the disciplinary council process and the purposes and to shame the leaders. In fact, I had mentioned we just got through recording an intro. |
| 3:03.0 | And I actually mentioned the sort of city and state where they live and they wanted to make sure and try and protect the identity of the leaders as much as possible. |
| 3:14.0 | So they asked me to re record this intro and I was happy to do it. So the purpose isn't to shame or embarrass those leaders, but instead is to I'm going to guess to shine light on this process and to make sure the church is sort of held accountable and that the record, a record is made of what they're doing. |
| 3:32.0 | You know, because there's value in that. So Jacob and Hannah, welcome to more of a stories podcast. |
| 3:41.0 | Thanks, John. Thank you. |
