To hone means to improve, to perfect, to make something better.

This is the idea.

So what do we hone?

We hone our skills.

That's the idea.

So what are you guys doing right now by listening to this podcast? You are honing your listening skills. Now, if you repeat after me, then you are honing your pronunciation skills.

If you try to mimic the way I am speaking, you are honing your intonation skills and maybe

even your pronunciation skills, which is a good thing.

It's possible to do all of that with this podcast.

To hone.

And we almost always say to hone a certain skill.
