This is KAMWylant, and you are listening to the 58th episode of the Word Play Podcast.

I'm known for my in-depth, some might even call it obsessive outlining.

I spent seven months outlining my work in progress the deepest breath.

But I discovered this week that I skipped just a few days short.

I dived into writing this week, but discovered that I had jumped the gun. My impatience

to begin got the better of me, and I started writing without taking the time to

consider how this story wanted to be told. First person, third person, past tense,

present tense, how was the timeline to play out? How are the POVs to be balanced?

I told myself I'd sort that out as I went along.

But considering how much time I invest in outlining so that I don't have to sort things out as I go along,

that probably wasn't a very good idea.

After a few days of fiddling about aimlessly with my beginning chapter, I finally got into

the inevitable and set down to quietly listen to the story and figure out how it wanted to be told.

Apparently this story has the very decided opinion that it wants to be told in a multiple third person,

primarily past tense, entirely chronological narrative, with a bit of emphasis

on the POV of my main female character. I love it when stories make up their mind so decisively.
