With the five things you need to know for Monday, June 17th.

Tropical threats are kicking the Atlantic Hurricane Season into gear.

We start with CNN meteorologist Chad Myers.

You foam a couple things going on this week. Some very heavy tropical rainfall

expected in Texas, also parts of the Yucatan around Mexico. But then all the way even into Louisiana could see 5 to 10 inches of rain coming down from a tropical event that won't probably get a name.

It could, but it will certainly just bring very heavy rainfall.

Another event trying to develop in the Atlantic making a run at the East Coast,

again, likely not a name just yet,

but still an awful lot of moisture and even some wind along the Carolina coast and then in the

northeast temperatures as hot as we've seen in decades.

NATO's top leader met with President Joe Biden in Washington today, and he had some promising

updates about allies defense spending.

NATO Secretary General Jain Stoltenberg said that the number of countries meeting their

defense spending benchmark has doubled during

Biden's term. He said five years ago only 10 NATO allies were spending the required 2% of their

GDPs on defense. Now more than 20 countries are meeting that threshold. This is good for

Europe and good for America, especially since much of this extra money is spent here in the United States.

Stoltenberg also spoke today about Russia's invasion of Ukraine and suggested NATO

allies may need to impose a cost on China for supporting Russia.

The reality is that China is fueling the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

And at the same time, it wants to maintain good relations with the West.
