New York City Mayor Eric Adams said today that authorities have identified quote,

outside agitators causing problems at the mostly peaceful student protests at Columbia,

NYU and other schools in the city.

CNN's Omar Jimenez is at Columbia where students are camping out intense on the lawn. Really the core purposes of it is to urge and push Columbia University to divest from corporations, they say,

benefit from Israeli apartheid and genocide here. and this has really been the focal

point of protests that we've seen emanate to places across the country.

Columbia President Minu Shafique is under fire from faculty and students for calling in the New York Police Department to clear the encampment, even as she faces pressure from lawmakers and donors to do the same this week.

But one person who identified herself as W said

spirits and the encampment are high. We are united in our cause. We are building community.

We are eating together. We are keeping each other safe and warm. We are putting our

principles into action and we plan to continue to do so by being here every day

until Columbia divest. School officials have warned that the ongoing encampment is in violation of university rules,

but have not given specifics on disciplinary actions.

Other schools where similar protests have started include Yale, Harvard, MIT, and the University of Minnesota.

The Senate is expected to vote on a foreign aid package later today or tomorrow.
