about herbs and ornamental plants that you can use in a window box. Now if you're like

me you want to get as much real estate out of your

home as you can when it comes to growing plants. But the options for what to plant in

window boxes can sometimes be a little overwhelming. So today I'm going to go into three herbs

that you can grow in a window box and three ornamental plants that you can grow in a window

box if you're more a fan of the visual appearance of these boxes rather than

their productive capabilities. First we're going to tackle herbs. If you love to cook

you probably also love fresh ingredients.

Best way to get the freshest ingredients is obviously to grow them yourself.

And there's no better way to grow your own than to have a supply of fresh herbs in a window box right outside your

kitchen window. Here's the first one. Basil. Basil obviously one of the most

popular herbs to cook with which makes it just as popular to grow.

If you are starting it after the last frost before spring, which hopefully you are, then

you can just plant the seeds directly in your window box and to get a head start on your

basal plants you can start them indoors and then transplant them outside into the

box. As far as soil pretty simple they just need moist well-draining potting soil and as your

basil grows you can trim the flowers off to continue producing the leaves which we

prize and value so much.

Second herb, peppermint.
