Today we're talking about six ways to effectively control weeds. So these are some

proven methods to control weeds in your garden. And if you're like me, you hate weeds. I don't know anyone who would say, oh, I love weeds, I cherish them in my garden. No one does.

But I don't want to spend a lot of time dealing with them.

And in a perfect world, I would just prevent them from ever growing in the first place right so let's go through really quickly

six different ways that you can deal with them

tip number one deal with them.

Tip number one.

Don't agitate your soil if you don't have to.

Every square inch of your garden contains weed seeds no matter what, unless you're using sterilized soil in a raised

bed that has no contamination and no seeds blowing over the top of it which is

very unlikely your garden soil is going to have weed seeds, but only those in the top one or two inches actually

get enough light and heat to germinate. So as soon as you start digging and messing up the soil layer, you're going to be bringing

new weed seeds to the surface and giving them the opportunity to germinate.

So if they're deep in there, well, they're not going to germinate, so it's almost like they're not there unless you

disturb them. So tip number one is minimize the amount that you disturb your soil if you can.

Tip number two, use mulch.

Now this is a obvious tip.

mulches, this is the purpose of mulch.

You can use wood chips, bark, straw, pine needles.

Really what mulch is doing here is it's keeping your soil cooler.

It's keeping it moist so you're improving your water retention.
