Hello from CNN I'm Joe Beck with the five things you need to know for Monday January 29th.

A drone attack in Jordan has killed three US troops and injured more than 30 others.

This is the first time American service members have died because of enemy fire in the Middle East since the beginning of the Gaza War.

Officials said the drone was fired by Iran-backed militants and appeared to come from Syria

but haven't said which specific group is responsible for the attack on the base.

President Joe Biden says the US will hold them to account and quote we shall

respond. State media says Iran has denied any involvement in the attacks.

CNN's Natasha Bertrand has more.

Now this is not the first time that Iran-backed militias have targeted U.S. and coalition bases in Iraq and Syria.

In fact, since October alone, these Iran-backed proxy groups have launched over 150 drone and rocket

attacks at these bases saying that they are retaliating against the U.S. response and support

for Israel in the war against Hamas in Gaza.

The U.S. has warned Iran privately through diplomatic channels that they need to rein in these
